Betty Lehrman has been involved in children’s theater, storytelling, directing and teaching since she formed the performance troupe “Down the Rabbit Hole” while still in high school. A professional storyteller for many years, Betty performed for children and adults throughout the US, Australia and Thailand. As an accredited Mass Council Artist in Residence, she taught storytelling and creative drama in classrooms throughout Massachusetts. Her storytelling recordings have won Parents Choice awards. She served as the theater director for the Hemenway Elementary School in Framingham and the Benjamin Franklin Charter School in Franklin, and founded the PAC Family Players, a performance group for students grades 3-8 at the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest in Framingham. Most recently, she was the director of Camp Kaleidoscope, the Jewish Community Center’s premier arts and science camp in Newton, MA, from 2009-2023.
Betty majored in theater at Northwestern University and holds a master’s degree in educational theater from New York University in association with Bretton Hall College, England. She earned a certificate from the Broadway Teaching Lab.
She looks forward to returning to her roots to explore theater, storytelling, and creative drama with students at Needham Community Theatre!
